Perhaps still recovering from the Mobile World Congress, W Hotel Barcelona looked a little ‘ruffled’ at the time of this review, with obvious signs of hard partying at the public areas, and its lobby still quite busy with guests waiting to check out.

Nevertheless, W Hotel is a great place for medium to large events as it has the ballrooms and function rooms with the all right size and facilities. There is ample pre-function space for cocktail reception, tea breaks or tabletop exhibitions. The ballroom has high ceiling and natural daylight. For example, the Great Room has a classroom-style seating capacity of 600 guests with 7m height. Its sea-facing side is fully glass from floor to ceiling, providing great view of the beach and ocean. This is an excellent location for conferences and gala dinners. The room can be partitioned into 3 smaller rooms. The Great Room has a pre-function area, large enough for desktop exhibition, and is flanked by terrace spaces for outdoor coffee breaks and reception, if preferred.

The Mega Room can accommodate 140 guests classroom style, but with a ceiling height of 3m, it is more suitable for smaller seminar. This is supported by 11 smaller rooms for breakout sessions. Some of the rooms have the flexibility to be joined for bigger capacity.

Apart from function rooms for serious meetings and conventions, the hotel also has an abundance of space for social functions, such as the Altitude Terrace which can fit 1,400 guests for standing cocktail reception, as well as a beach fronting area, equipped with bar and lightings, that can be transformed for large MICE groups to use as breakfast area or evening theme party.

The guest rooms here are large, luxurious and spacious with great ocean view, a great contrast to its rather ‘minimalist’ corridor with worn out carpets.
