While Zagreb today still lacks dedicated convention facilities, it makes up with creative and flexible use of historic buildings. Thanks to the compactness of this city, traveling from hotels to these special meeting venues by foot or tram is not a problem.

The Croatia State Archives building offers several rooms for rental as event venues. These include the main hall, the reading room and seminar room.  The main hall can easily sit nearly 180 people for classroom sessions. The advantage for using historic buildings such as this as conference venue is that they allow delegates a unique opportunity to admire Art Noveu architecture while attending seminar sessions. The hall, with its high ceiling and beautiful stained glass, is also an excellent venue for grand theme dinner and cocktail functions. Diners need not worry about spilling red wine onto valuable archives as the bookshelves were cleverly put on rollers so that they can simply turn around to hide the books from the guests. In any case, the more important archives are stored on the upper levels, which are visible to but not accessible by guests in the hall.

For smaller meetings or breakout sessions, the Professors’ Reading Room (20 people classroom style) and the Catalog Room (10 people boardroom) provide a cozy and academic environment conducive for discussions. The Catalog room is also suitable as an event secretariat room. The common lobby for all three rooms is a good area for setting up tea breaks and cocktails. There are several other seminar rooms with modern decor and facilities, should the need for more breakout rooms arise.

The Croation State Archives’ function room rental package includes basic AV equipment and technician. Unlike most venues in Asia where extra fee is imposed on organizers bringing in external suppliers, the State Archives extends flexibility to those who might want to engage their own AV contractors and caterers.
