It was right after a rather choppy two-hour ferry ride on the sea. Most of the delegates probably couldn’t wait to check into a hotel room to puke, rest or sleep through the afternoon… food was the last thing in the mind.
Alas, this was not to be, as the delegates were quickly whisked onto a bus to visit Dusit Thani Hua Hin and have lunch. Upon arrival, however, the delegates were pleasantly surprised by a warm welcome with re-created street scene of traditional Thai ‘hawkers’, distributing small welcome gifts, including medicinal oil and sniff sticks for headache. These came in very handy.
This was swiftly followed by a short dance performance at the hotel lobby, where cool and sourish refreshments were served to help soothe the nausea.
In case some delegates still suffer from that ‘sinking’ feeling, hunky and sexy lifeguards in signature ‘Baywatch’ red swimsuits were out in full force at the poolside cafe… to pose for photoshoots. Moving on, a group of Thai boxers performed an exciting boxing and dance routine at the middle of the pool, winning rousing applause and perking up everyone’s energy level.
Closer to the lunch venue, delegates witnessed a re-enactment of Thailand’s grand Royal Barge Procession on the lake surrounded by lush greenery within the Hotel’s vast compound. Dancing and singing chefs then kicked off the experiential buffet lunch where delegates can experience cooking Thai dishes themselves. At the end of the visit, the Hotel staff, chefs and performers bided farewell by singing and dancing to the tune of “It’s a Small World”.
In this two-hour visit, the Hotel managed to creatively showcase different themes and venues it can offer to MICE groups. It managed to temporarily suspend the delegates’ feeling of sea sickness. It also demonstrated that hospitality need not be always food and drinks. Well done, Dusit Thani Hua Hin!
