Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia is like an evolving organism. The hotel, formed by an ensemble of traditional Andalusian-style houses, grew in size over the years as it acquires old houses in the neighbourhood when they become available, and turn the houses in to hotel guestrooms. The neighbourhood is the Santa Cruz Quarter, an ancient living quarters for Jews (Juderia) in the most traditional area from city center of Sevilla.
The hotel is a great case-study for conservation of heritage buildings as it seeks to preserve the every inch of the building structures as they are, while updating the facilities for hotel accommodation purpose. Hence, almost no walls were knocked out and these clusters of houses were linked mainly by existing or newly built courtyards, or through an amazing system of underground tunnels.
Staying in this 4-star hotel and finding the way around can be a “team-building” exercise itself because of the maze of tunnels and passage ways, as well as the lack of direction signage. This is not due to poor planning by the management, but part of the conservation guidelines for signage placement!
Las Casas de la Judería is characterised by its charming central courtyards dominated by a set of gorgeous fountains. These, together with the Emporion Restaurant and Piano Bar may be used for cocktail reception and dinner. Some function areas in the main lobby building are suitable for small seminar or board meeting. Click here to view photo gallery.
