Hua Hin is one of Thailand’s most celebrated beach resort towns. Situated approximately 200km south of Bangkok, this resort town is frequented by the Thai Royal family and elite members of the society. Hence Hua Hin is a natural choice for a luxury MICE destination.
Mrigdayavan Palace
Apart from having a wide choice of luxurious accommodation and award-winning facilities, there are many interesting venues for holding MICE events and theme parties. One of these exclusive locations is at the Mrigdayavan Palace grounds. Mrigdayavan Palace was King Rama VI’s summer palace and is also known as the Palace of Love and Hope. The sprawling green lawn facing the ocean, with great views and cooling sea breeze, is an excellent venue for lavish outdoor theme parties. The area can easily take 300 or more guests for a sit down dinner. A beautifully restored bungalow serves as a backdrop for live performances. During a recent event, the caterer served up fairly decent modern Thai cuisine for about 150 guests, despite having to cook in temporary kitchen under the tentage.
Hua Hin Railway Station and Royal Train to Bangkok
Another unique venue is Hua Hin’s vintage railway station. A lot of old-world charm is retained here, and this is perfect for a ‘rolling 20s’ theme event with street vendors selling local delicacies and buskers providing entertainment. To complete the luxury experience, board the Royal Train from Hua Hin to Bangkok with lunch onboard. It is a truly exclusive experience as this is where the Thai Royal family entertains guests. The train consists of 6 carriages for dining, lounge, bar, bedrooms, restrooms and kitchen. Onboard catering is provided by world renowned restaurant, Blue Elephant. While the interior decor is elegant and cutleries are exquisite, it is best to have less than 20 passengers on the train at any one time, otherwise the seats can be a little tight for a 4-hour ride to Bangkok.
To organize an event in the above venues, contact the local DMC or your event manager.
Let’s Sea
For a less regal experience, perhaps Let’s Sea restaurant and bar may be a good place to chill out. It has a great beachfront location, cool dining and bar areas. However, the overall interior decor and layout is somewhat similar to the famous Ku de Ta in Bali, hence lacking originality and X-factor. The buffet spread is also dissappointing in both variety and quality. Hua Hin boasts excellent seafood, but the barbacue spread here serves only prawns, crabs and calamari. At a recent event, the barbaque prawns were not even fully cooked. Hence there may be some way to go before this restaurant can be considered as a ‘luxury’ MICE venue.
