As with most Shangri-la Hotels around the world, this property did not disappoint in terms of function space. The Shangri-la, located within the city centre, is also a rather new hotel in Chiang Mai and hence is equipped with some of the latest convention facilities. Its 99-seat Auditorium, which comes with built in stage, state-of-the-art sound and simultaneous interpretation system, and built-in classroom setting with plush seats, makes Shangri-la stand-out amongst other hotels in the city.
For large conventions and exhibitions, the Grand Lana Ballroom on the second level can fit about 700 guests classroom style. It has a height of 8.8m, allowing construction of grand stage backdrop or exhibition booth with high signage design. This ballroom can be divided into three sections. The ballroom lobby and foyer is also large enough for cocktail reception or small exhibition with standard-height booths.
Groups of up to 200 guests may instead use the Sukhothai Room, or the Phayao Room for less than 70 guests, both on the first level. However, the ceiling height for both rooms is only about 4m. Both rooms can be partitioned into a total of six smaller rooms for small group meetings.
Although the function space and business nature of this hotel make it more suitable for large conferences and exhibitions, smaller incentive groups would enjoy Thai herbal and floral treatments at Shangri-la's signature Chi Spa. The Spa, nestled in tranquil landscaped garden within the hotel, has nine spacious en-suite villas and a yoga pavilion.
Guests rooms in this hotel is generally spacious. However, the traditional and somewhat dated interior design, with sombre colour scheme throughout the hotel, is quite a yawn... although this has much to do with personal taste.
