Feisty Flamenco
Casa de la Guitarra
A visit to Seville is not complete without catching a Flamenco performance. Developed from the Gypsies’ styles, Flamenco music and dance-steps had influences from all over the world including Indian dance. Many people associate Flamenco with dance, but the music and rhythm is very much part of the soul of Flamenco.
Casa de la Guitarra is one flamenco performance house that highlights the guitar as an important part of Flamenco. It is located in a house built in the 17th century in the heart of Barrio de Santa Cruz and the interior is decorated with the owner’s wide collection of guitars from different eras. Casa de la Guitarra is run by José Luis Postigo, a spiritual artist and distinguished guitarrist who won two national prizes.
Casa de la Guitarra exudes a rather rustic feel as it is a compact and intimate area that sits not more than 100 guests. Although the stage is small, the guitarist, dancer and singer gave their very best and the audience can truly feel their energy. For small MICE groups wishing to experience Flamenco in close proximity, do book in advance: info@casadelaguitarra.es or visit www.casadelaguitarra.es
Museo del Baile Flamenco
Featuring a bigger stage, larger seating capacity and offering a more theatrical experience is Museo del Baile Flamenco. Here, there is enough room to host medium-size MICE groups, and there is even a bar to host cocktail reception. Organizers may also book private Flamenco shows at this venue, or hire the dancers for performances at desired locations.
Museo del Baile Flamenco also conducts dance classes; hence, MICE organizers might find it interesting for participants to learn Flamenco as part of social or team-building activities. As the name suggests, this place is a Museum apart from being a performance venue. The upper level takes visitors through the history and evolution of Flamenco, and the influences from different dance cultures. Therefore, a visit to Museo del Baile Flamenco can be an entire educational, team-building and entertainment experience all under one roof. A brainchild of Cristina Hoyos who is one of the greatest flamenco dancers in the world, a section of the Museum was dedicated to her performances, films and costumes.
