Casa Llotja de Mar or “Sea Exchange” is a beautiful Neo-classical building that has witnessed the development of Catalan trade, art and architecture for more than six centuries. During medieval and modern times, the Llotja was the seat of the Consolat de Mar or “Sea Consulate.” In the second half of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th it housed the Royal Board of Commerce of Barcelona, and since 1886 it has been the home of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Shipping of Barcelona.
Casa Llotja de Mar springs many surprises as it consists of a number of buildings from different era superimposed upon each other: from the 14th-century Gothic nucleus formed by what later became known as the Contracting and Consular Halls, to the collateral nave of the 15th century which contains the Gilded Hall; then came the new extensions built in the 16th century; and finally, the Neo-classical exterior built in the late 18th century as we see today.
The Llotja offers a variety to interesting, majestic, stately and flexible function spaces for conferences or gala dinners. The 6 indoor function rooms can accommodate from 40 (Fountain of the Neptune Rooms) to over 700 guests (The Contracting Hall). Although an old, heritage building, it was fully restored and equipped with modern AV and IT facilities, ready to take-on any events. The outdoor courtyard and grand stairways is an ideal space for cocktail reception for up to 400 guests.
Casa Llotja de Mar is a great alternative to convention centres and hotel ballrooms in the city for MICE.
