Apart from its famous cuisine and smiles, Muay Thai is another well-known export from Thailand. Muay Thai Live – The Legend Lives is not a rowdy ring fight, but a stage performance that tells the story of Muay Thai's origin and heroes spanning 300 years, and its evolution into today's format as a sport. It is action packed from beginning to the end, interspersed with stories from the past to present, complete with romance without being too cheesy. It is also informative, featuring basic techniques of Muay Thai.
Created by well-known film director Mr Ekachai Uekrongtham, who was active in Singapore's theatre scene in the 1990s, the show comes complete with music and spectacular digital screen backdrop. Muay Thai fans will be pleased to know that the performers as all real Muay Thai fighters and not merely actors, and every punch and kick is as real as it gets. Those who are not into Muay Thai will still appreciate the well choreographed stunts and fighting scenes, and be kept engaged by the stories and mini-soap opera that carries the show from beginning to the end. The show is mostly non-verbal, with short and simple subtitles in English, Chinese and Japanese where necessary, hence it is suitable for international audience.
Muay Thai Live has the potential of becoming a must-see in Bangkok, much like popular South Korean theatre shows “Jump” and “Nanta”, etc. Perhaps it can take a leaf from its Korean counterparts by incorporating some audience participation to make the show more interactive.
Performed daily at 8pm at The Stage in Asiatique, Muay Thai Live is also available for private MICE group booking. The venue has the capacity of up to 600 people and there is space for private pre-or post-show cocktail reception. Asiatique The Riverfront is the latest night market attraction in Bangkok, offering not just shopping, but also dinning, pubbing and other entertainment experience for both tourists and locals.
