It was a bright sunny morning as we took the cruise from Perth down south to Fremantle. The great weather allowed us to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Swan River in a leisurely mood. The traveling time was long enough for a buffet meal on the cruise, but the organizers had something better waiting for us.
After we arrived in Fremantle, we were brought to the Red Herring Seafood Restaurant, not far from the Port. The restaurant sits on the bank of Swan River and extends into the waters. It even has its own private pier. If a MICE group organizer were to charter a cruise from Perth to CBD, the cruise may even bring guests directly to Red Herring’s private pier for a more unique experience.
Apart from the Western seafood kitchen serving fresh catches from Western Australia and neighboring seas, Red Herring also features a Sakana Bar that serves the best of Japanese food and wine. Our group had plates of Fresh Sushi & Sashimi for starters. This seafood selection by the restaurant’s Sakana Bar chef was of top quality and simply fresh and delicious.
For mains I ordered the Pan-seared Scallops from Shark Bay, Western Australia, on a bed of grilled pork belly and saffron sweet corn puree. The scallops were juicy and succulent, while the grilled pork belly added crisps and extra flavor to the dish.
Restaurant can host sit-down dinner of up to 120 guests, while an adjoining function room accommodates up to 150 guests for cocktail function, or sit 120 theatre-style for seminar. Full-height windows allow excellent river view, though it can be a little hot in the summer months.
